Pixel: a new experience for transit areas,
through the Parisian Subway

2007 / ENSCI-Les Ateliers under the direction of J. L. Fréchin
Commissioner: the F.I.N.G. (association) and the Citu-TerraNumerica (laboratory)
Exhibition at the 104 (Paris) for the manifestation "Ville 2.0"
With Delphine Mériaux

Pixel aims at changing the environment of the Parisian subway, to develop the urban layers' transparency, to make this area a sensory evocation rather than an apnea, totally separated from the city. Using the white tiled arched roof of the subway, as an informative surface, Pixel provides and broadcasts landmarks on the surface, through integrated RFID transmitters and LED.

Tiles of the arch become bright and colourful pixels, suggesting and sending information about the city surrounding the stations. Moving within this graphical environment, via your mobile phone, you can access various LBS content: dynamic and useful items, connecting your route and the surface during times of transit.
